Electronic I.D. Herd Testing
- Herd Testing can be streamlined using Electronic Identification Tags (NLIS)
- It helps to make Herd Testing less labour intensive and ensures cow identification is more accurate
- The Electronic ID method can work in conjunction with Mistro, Jantec, Easy Dairy and iDairy software programs
- Electronic herd testing requires a radio frequency antenna (available from NHD) at the cow entry point of the milking shed. The antenna reads the (NLIS) tag.
For areas where robot sorting is available
Accurate cow identification - no requirement to sort samples
Option 1
- Cow's NLIS tag is read at shed entry
- Hand held palm unit displays cow's herd test number
- Farmer scans pre-printed barcoded flask lid, linking cow to milk sample
Option 2
- Cow's NLIS tag is read at shed entry
- Sticker is printed with cow Herd Test number and barcode
- Sticker placed manually on flask lid to link cow to milk sample
At NHD's laboratory, robot technology sorts and matches samples.
For areas where robot sorting is not currently available
Accurate cow identification - dispenses need for data sheets for sorting purposes
Option 3
- Cow's NLIS tag is read at shed entry
- Sticker is printed with cow Herd Test number and flask position
- Farmers places milk sample flask in designated crate position
